Situated in Paris’ world famous Galeries Lafayette department store, the Laurier restaurant is a highly respected Greek eatery , owned by the Mavrommatis brothers. The Mavrommatis family has a very high reputation on the Parisian culinary scene for their outstanding Greek and Mediterranean cuisine. One of four Mavrommatis restaurants, Laurier is more than just a pit stop in between shopping. Located on the first floor, the chic Mediterranean style is smart and contemporary, with white walls, banquettes and pouffes and lots of blond wood contrasted by colourful ethnic cushions and artefacts. A strong business clientele fill the tables at lunchtimes, along with a smattering of hungry shoppers and the ambience is a sophisticated one. Andreas Mavrommatis’ menu is full of modern Mediterranean delights, with a good variety of first class tapas, mezze, antipasti and tagines all refined into beautifully presented dishes. The caviar of aubergine with tomatoes and feta is a must as is the unusual but oh so good strawberry soup with rosewater. Laurier may only be open during the daytime, making it a mostly lunchtime venue, but it is well worth a visit. Smart Mediterranean food and a stylish setting come make a winning combination.
