A perfect representation of French dining is the charming and exquisite restaurant Chez Julien, found in the historic Marais district of Paris. Chez Julien was founded in 1780 and boasts an unbeatable and idyllic position in Paris, summing up every romantic notion of the city, with the Seine just behind , the Pont Louis Phillippe close by and the L’Eglise de St Gervais in the background. Just across the river you can see the tip of the Ile St Louis and Notre Dame. Chez Julien is no tourist trap though, this gem of a restaurant is an elegant and classy establishment which has been recently renovated by the Costes family, best known for their luxurious Hotel Costes. The interior of Chez Julien is chic but with a retro feel- plush banquettes and tall mirrors set the scene for a stylish crowd of diners who appreciate first rate French cooking. Foie gras, frog’s legs, rack of lamb and Chateaubriand with fries feature on a menu full of classic French delights. The tree fringed terrace is wonderfully picturesque with stunning views over the Seine. Chez Julien couldn’t be more French if it tried and certainly ticks all the right boxes for a romantic and authentic Parisian meal out.

We were recommended Chez Julian by a friend and then saw it here on Best French Restaurants, so gave it a go. It has a typically French ambience and bustling atmosphere. The food was delicious and we had a great evening. If you're travelling to Paris, it's well worth checking out.
