Opened more than 130 years ago, the restaurant Aux Charpentiers is an old style French bistro situated on Paris’ famous left bank. The restaurant was aptly named Aux Charpentiers because it was once the rendezvous of Paris’ master carpenters whose guild headquarters was just next door. These days the restaurant attracts a wide and varied clientele from young dating couples to visitors to the city to local Parisians who just love the place. The food at Aux Charpentiers has not changed too much through the years; it has managed to maintain a thoroughly traditional French bistro menu with very well prepared dishes that have become proven favourites among the regular customers. Appetizers include duck pate and rabbit terrine as well as Boudin Noir (black pudding). The duck confit and foie gras as well as salt pork with lentils are enticing but many come to try the famous calf’s head, much tastier than it actually sounds. Classic desserts like pear tart or rum baba round off a fine meal. The atmosphere at Aux Charpentiers is colourful and the décor is visibly devoted to the works of the carpenter’s guild. A real home from home for many and definitely a gastronomical Paris landmark.
