Alcazar, a Sir Terence Conran creation, is a stylish restaurant and bar located on Paris’ famous left bank. This hip and buzzing brasserie serving international cuisine is based in what was once a notorious transvestite nightclub, but Conran has transformed the space into a bright and funky eatery with a twelve metre high glass roof and typical Conran characteristics such as the open plan kitchen, tables without tablecloths and traditional red banquettes not forgetting the mezzanine bar which is a favourite amongst Paris’ hip and trendy where the DJ’s knock out the latest in house and funk. The restaurant menu is international but with French influences and includes dishes such as Charlois duckling with honey and spices, monkfish with saffron in puff pastry, free-range chicken and asparagus in a morel mushroom cream sauce and grilled rib eye of beef, French fries and béarnaise sauce. Desserts are just too good to refuse with mouthwatering delights such as chocolate fondant with vanilla ice cream or raspberry and liquorice vacherin. There are also various set menus to choose from as well as the very reasonable brunch menu at just £22.00, excellent for Paris. Conran’s Alcazar has set the Parisian restaurant scene on fire and reigns as one of the most popular and hip addresses on the left bank.
